Owner, D. Williams Public Relations Group

After a stint working in media relations and community affairs at NBC in the early ‘90s, Chicago native Dionne Williams decided it was time for a change. Williams knew that her experience and passion for marketing and PR would drive her future success, but she also knew that she wanted to be her own boss.

Today, Williams is busy running her own company, the D. Williams Public Relations Group. Geared toward raising awareness and increasing revenue for a slew of corporate and mid-sized clients, D. Williams PR is one of the elite agencies in the Midwest and its founder has an idea why.

“I think with the company I just see it as helping people reach their vision,” Williams says. “They have this goal that they want to attain and I think our company helps them [and] really gives them the jump-start in getting the goal or the vision that they want.”

Whether she’s working for clients like Jennifer Hudson or coordinating premier events like the 2008 N’DIGO Gala and the upcoming Illinois Democratic nomination party for Barack Obama, Williams is all about building relationships. “The thing with public relations or starting your own company, I think, is building those relationships and I’ve learned that networking is really key for people to know who you are,” she says -- gavin philip godfrey
