Paul Porter Releases His Solo Debut September 30

The project is highlighted with appearances from Pastor Rance Allen, Producer David Caton, and Harvey Watkins, Jr. of the Canton Spirituals

Nashville, TN- -With 30 years as the lead singer of the legendary gospel quartet, The Christianaires, Paul Porter has had his share of sorrows and exuberant moments. However, through his reflection Paul is able to see the other side of those experiences with a fresh perspective. With his whole heart, he is ready to express that this is A NEW DAY (Light Records). The solo debut will release September 30 and is chock full of variety, appealing to traditional quartet fans and contemporary gospel lovers alike.

A NEW DAY is representative of much more than just an album title; it is a collection of his life’s journey. Each song was picked to embody the promise he made to God during his sickness. “I told Him when I got off my sick bed; I would testify everywhere I went.” With songs titled “My Redeemer Lives”, “I’ll Praise You”, and “I Know a Man”, Paul shares his faithfulness to God through this album.

“There were a lot of songs that were imbedded in me and it is now my time to share”. The tune “What Did You Do”, written by Porter, is a traditional hand-clapping, aisle dancing song that “feels like Sunday morning, ya’ll”. The ‘must get up and dance’ song helps listeners go back and remember what they did when the Lord saved them.

With a slow head bop, and a soulful demeanor, “You’re Blessed” and “Get Away And Pray”, are songs that “the young folks could listen to”. Capturing the elements of an R&B groove, Porter adds his spiritual touch.

The quartet swinging, “I Made it Through” has a traditional feel with punchy horns and tight background vocals. As a personal testimony for Porter, he recollects, “I used to sing about that all the time and now I realize when you through something yourself it really hits home and you can really say, yes…I made it through.

Paul is also joined by Harvey Watkins, Jr. of the Canton Spirituals on “He’s There All The Time”. The duet ushers in the Spirit of God with the choir chiming in, “he’s there all the time”, woven over the testimony and interplay between Paul and Harvey.

“Going into the studio I was a bit nervous. I have had other opportunities to do a solo project but the timing just wasn’t right, but now this is truly in God’s timing. I’ve prayed about it and I know that God has ordained it,” imparts Paul.

Paul Porter is most recognized as the thunder-throat lead vocalist of the Christianaires; gaining notoriety as one of the most renowned quartet outfits. Known for his vocal flexibility and an array of music talents; arranging, producing, and writing for artists such as the Williams Brothers, the Canton Spirituals, and the Drifters. He also has shared the stage with Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, and K-Ci lead singer of the 90’s super group, Jodeci.

This is only just the beginning for Paul Porter. With such a story to tell, this album will be a must-have for all gospel lovers. “A New Day” gives that traditional gospel quartet sound an edgy update and those R&B grooves a spiritual injection.
