Faith-based organization works to feed Atlanta's hungry

Atlanta, GA (ChristianPRgroup.com) - New Birth Missionary Baptist Church located in Lithonia, Georgia continues its partnership with one of the largest international aid organizations, Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless (HFTH), to distribute food, clothing, medical, educational and survival supplies to thousands of people on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2008.

As the largest financial contributor to HFTH, New Birth is expanding its support of the organization by providing New Birth outreach ministry volunteers to assist the HFTH staff in serving meals on Thanksgiving Day at Turner Field, 755 Hank Aaron Drive, SE in Atlanta. Since 2002, New Birth Church has assisted the organization with nearly $ 750,000 as HFTH has helped more than a million people by providing food, rent, mortgage, and utility assistance to families; literacy courses and GED classes; and, distributing school supplies and book bags to children.

"We encourage our church family to be empowered through service and Christian-centered activities," says Bishop Eddie L. Long, senior pastor, New Birth. "New Birth outreach ministries models the love of God by providing a spiritual presence within communities."

In addition to contributing to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will feed 24,000 people, which include families in five housing communities near the church on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Bishop Long will join the outreach ministry volunteers as they deliver the meals and offer holiday prayers. The New Birth spirit of giving will also include the gift of life. As the New Birth outreach ministry feeds families, the ministry will host a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross. To handle the expected large response, two blood donation locations will be set up, one in the New Birth Family Life Center and the other in the multi-purpose room.
