He's the biggest movie star in the world, and on Wednesday, Will Smith will shine his light on St. Louis.

Smith will headline a red-carpet event at the AMC Creve Coeur 12 cinema for the local première of his new movie "Seven Pounds," which opens nationwide Dec. 19.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Fans attending the free event are encouraged to donate canned food items, which will benefit the St. Louis Area Foodbank and Urban League in partnership with the St. Louis Rams.

Donors will get a chance to win a ticket for the movie screening, which begins at 7 p.m.

Smith, 40, is the rapper turned actor who has starred in such hits as "Independence Day" and "Men in Black." Twice he has been nominated for an Academy Award for best actor, for "Ali" in 2001 and "The Pursuit of Happyness" in 2006.

In "Seven Pounds," Smith plays a troubled IRS agent who is compelled to help seven strangers.

The Creve Coeur cinema is at 10465 Olive Boulevard, just west of Lindbergh Boulevard.
