Hundreds of thousands of fans gathered on Tuesday to honour Michael Jackson at a public memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. About 8,750 people were chosen (by online lottery) to receive tickets for the star-studded service, the Los Angeles Police Department braced for a much greater fan turnout.
Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Usher Jennifer Hudson are among the stars scheduled to pay tribute to Jackson. The event is also set to feature performances of some of Jackson's greatest hits by John Mayer, Usher and Lionel Richie. Also on the list are L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant, actress Brooke Shields, Martin Luther King III and his sister Bernice, and Motown founder Berry Gordy.
